1910 Minneapolis "45" Steam Engine

1910 Minneapolis "45" Steam Engine

The Minneapolis "45" horsepower double tandem compound steam engine was manufactured by the Minneapolis Threshing Machine Company of Hopkins, Minnesota, from 1908 to 1910. The Minneapolis "45" was the largest steam engine that Minneapolis Threshing Machine Co. manufactured, and was designed to be primarily a plowing engine. It featured a 10 1/4 x 15 x 12 inch double tandem compound steam engine, which developed 45 horsepower. Another application for the massive Minneapolis "45" was providing power for very large capacity threshing machines. For example, in the Pazandak collection, it is seen powering the largest Minneapolis threshing machine ever built. The Minneapolis "45" steam engine was purchased only by the largest farm operators, and thus there was a relatively small amount of them manufactured in the two year span. Due to such a small production run, comprehensive detailed information is very limited on the Minneapolis "45" double tandem compound steam engine.
