Van Doren, Sabra Gabriella

Sabra Gabriella Oblinger was born on August 17, 1847, in Peru, Indiana, the sister of Uriah Oblinger, and fourth child of Samuel and Esther (Zook) Oblinger. She married Joseph Van Doren on February 15, 1866. They had five children: Otto, Carl, Laura, Pearl, and Elizabeth. Sabra lived in Peru, Indiana.

Verity, John

John Verity was Mattie (Thomas) Oblinger's first and second cousin through marriage. John married Margaret Stafford, daughter of John and Elizabeth Stafford. Margaret (Stafford) Thomas, Mattie's mother, was first cousin to John Stafford and sister to Elizabeth Stafford, John Verity's father and mother-in-law, which made John Verity a double-cousin of Mattie's.

Vore, A. B.

A. B. Vore fought in the Civil War with Uriah Oblinger. During the march to Stone's River, he helped Uriah by carrying his knapsack when Uriah was ill and having trouble keeping up with the troops. Vore cared for the army doctors' horses during that period of the war. By the late 1880s he was a farmer in Denver, Indiana. He lived near, and was friends with, Uriah's uncle, John Cook.

Ward, Charles

Charles Ward homesteaded approximately two miles east of Giles Thomas's homestead. He apparently still owed Sam Thomas some money for wages in 1877, but had left the county under indictment for obtaining money under false pretenses before Uriah could collect any portion of what Mr. Ward owed Sam.
