For decades, the Chicago Daily News was a strong and prosperous
institution and, for a while, claimed the highest daily circulation of any
newspaper in the city. Besides the daily newspaper, the Chicago Daily
News company also published a substantial annual Chicago Daily News
Almanac and Year-Book from 1885 to 1938 (DN-0004584). In
1928-29, the Chicago Daily News had a larger building constructed at
400 West Madison, on the west bank of the Chicago River (DN-0086664, DN-0088940,
DN-0088973). Many images show stages of this construction (DN-0084063,
DN-0086671, DN-0086968, DN-0086970). And of course the dedication
ceremony for the completion of the building (DN-0089314) was broadcast on WMAQ
radio (DN-0088987). |
