Casey Jones is the name of the song and it is found in California Gold: Northern California Folk Music from the Thirties, 1938-1940.
Casey Jones was an engineer on the railroad. He was eight hours late delivering the 'western mail'. He said he would "...run her [the train] 'til she leaves the rail." He would make the train go so fast that it could leave the train tracks. His wife sat on the bed crying because she had just received a message that Casey had died. |
