I nominate John Forsyth, of Alabama, to be envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary of the United States to the Republic of Mexico, in place of James Gadsden, recalled.

Ordered, That the nomination of Edward C. Stiles be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

On motion by Mr. Hunter,

The Senate proceeded to consider the nomination of Angastin Harraszthey; and

Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to his appointment, agreeably to the nomination.

Mr. Pugh, from the Committee on Public Lands, to whom was referred, the 7th instant, the nomination of Francis G. Baldwin, reported.

Whereupon

Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to his appointment, agreeably to the nomination.
