The following messages were received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Tyler, his secretary:
To the Senate:
I nominate Jacob M. McCormick to be appointed deputy postmaster at Ithica, in the State of New York, in place of Francis A. Bloodgood, deceased.

I nominate James L. Edwards for reappointment as Commissioner of Pensions from and after the 3d day of March next, when his present commission will expire.

To the Senate of the United States:
I nominate William G. Flood to be register of the land office for the district of lands subject to sale at Quincy, in the State of Illinois, from the 8 day of January, 1843, when his late commission expired.
I also nominate Samuel Leech to be receiver of public moneys for the district of lands subject to sale at Quincy, in the State of Illinois, from the 8th day of January, 1843, when his late commission expired.

Ordered, That the nominations of William G. Flood and Samuel Leech be referred to the Committee on Public Lands.
Ordered, That the nominations of John D. McPherson and A. T. Smith be referred to the Committee on the District of Columbia.
Ordered, That the nomination of William Tyler be referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.
Mr. Sevier, from the Committee on Indian Affairs, to whom was referred, on the 20 instant, the nomination of A. M. M. Upshaw, reported.
Whereupon
Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to his appointment, agreeably to the nomination.
Mr. Berrien, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred, on the 17 instant, the nomination of P.S. Loughborough, reported.
Mr. Huntington, from the Committee on Commerce, to whom were referred, on the 5th instant, the nominations of Samuel McLean, James McHenry, Charles H. Delavan, A. M. Green, Robert B. Campbell, Charles Nichols, and Elisha Hathaway, jr., and on the 17th instant those of George Royster, John P. Adams, Syed Ben Calfaun, and Joseph S. Murphy, reported.
Whereupon
On motion by Mr. Huntington,
Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of Syed Ben Calfaun, agreeably to the nomination.
On motion by Mr. Conrad,
Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of George Royster, agreeably to the nomination.

The Senate proceeded to consider the nominations of Albert W. Parris, Moses H. Kirby, John H. McRae, Miles Nash, William P. Porter, Oliver Harris, Daniel Foster, Ernest Morphy, Joel B. Sutherland, Hugh Nelson, Robert B. Semple, and James P. Armstrong; and
Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of the said persons, agreeably to their nominations respectively.
