The following message was received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Nicolay, his secretary:
To the Senate of the United States:
I nominate George W. Leihy, of Arizona, to be superintendent of Indian affairs in the Territory of Arizona, in the place of Charles D. Poston, resigned.

The message was read.
Ordered, That the nomination of George W. Leihy be referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.
The Senate proceeded to consider the nomination of David S. Gooding; and,
On motion by Mr. Lane, of Indiana,
Ordered, That the said nomination lie upon the table.
