Ordered, That the nominations of Alexander W. Randall and Charles A. Harrington be referred to the Committee on Post-Offices and Post-Roads.

Ordered, That the nomination of S. R. Howlett be referred to the Committee on Territories.

Ordered, That the nomination of Joseph B. Upham be referred to the Committee on Commerce.

Ordered, That the nomination of R. P. Buckland and others, John P. S. Gobin and others, Frank M. Drew and others, Edwin B. Babbitt and others, Madison Mills and others, Charles A. Clark and others, Hyatt C. Ransom and others, William M. Deane and others, James J. Doyle and others, Jacob H. Smyser and others, James J. Doyle, be referred to the Committee on Military Affairs and the Militia, and printed in confidence for the use of the Senate.

Mr. Sherman, from the Committee on Finance, to whom were referred, the 10th instant, the nominations of W. M. Hamilton, James A. Greason, Garland C. Brodhead, Joseph A. Hay, John M. Glover, and T. T. Crittenden, reported the same without recommendation.

Mr. Chandler, from the Committee on Commerce, to whom was referred, the 13th instant, the nomination of John P. Foster, reported favorably thereon.

Whereupon

Resolved, That the Senate advise and consent to his appointment, agreeably to the nomination.

Mr. Chandler, from the Committee on Commerce, to whom was referred, the 28th of June, the nomination of Marshal B. Culpepper, reported favorably thereon.

On motion by Mr. Chandler,

Ordered, That the Secretary be directed to request the President of the United States to return to the Senate the resolution advising and consenting to the appointment of Wm. G. McCandlass to be collector of internal revenue for the twenty-third collection district of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Chandler submitted the following motion for consideration: That the resolution that the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of William G. McCandlass be reconsidered.

On motion by Mr. Wade,

Ordered, That the Secretary be directed to request the President of the United States to return to the Senate the resolution advising and consenting to the appointment of Leonard A. Harris, of Cincinnati, Ohio, to be collector of internal revenue for the first collection district, State of Ohio.

Mr. Wade submitted the following motion for consideration: That the resolution that the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of Leonord A. Harris be reconsidered.

On motion by Mr. Sherman,

Ordered, That the Secretary be directed to request the President of the United States to return to the Senate the resolution advising and consenting to the appointment of Samuel F. Cary, of Cincinnati, to be collector of internal revenue for the second collection district of Ohio.

Mr. Sherman submitted the following motion for consideration: That the resolution that the Senate advise and consent to the appointment of Samuel F. Cary be reconsidered.

The Senate proceeded to consider the nominations of William H. Carouth, W. W. Belknap, Lorenzo Thomas, and others (except P. G. Wood, who was confirmed the 23d of April), Wm. Maynadier and others
