The two following written messages were received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Coles, his Secretary:

To the Senate of the United States:

I nominate James S. Morsell, of the District of Columbia, to be a Judge of the Circuit Court of the District of Columbia, in the place of Nicholas Fitzhugh, deceased.

John Rice Jones, of the Missouri Territory, to be a member of the Legislative Council of the Missouri Territory, being one of two persons nominated to me by the House of Representatives of that Territory, to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of James Maxwell.

January 7th, 1815.

To the Senate of the United States:

I nominate William Van Deurson, of Connecticut, to be Surveyor of the port of Middletown, in Connecticut, and Inspector of the Revenue for the said port, vice Lamberton Cooper, resigned.

John Mott, to be principal Assessor for the first collection district of New Jersey.

William Ward, to be principal Assessor for the second collection district of Ohio.

James Denny, to be principal Assessor for the third collection district of Ohio.

Edward W. Tupper, to be principal Assessor for the fourth collection district of Ohio.

John Wentz, to be principal Assessor for the fourth collection district of Pennsylvania.

Andrew Parks, to be principal Assessor for the third collection district of Virginia.

Edward Hunter, to be principal Assessor for the sixteenth collection district of Virginia.

Felix Scott, to be principal Assessor for the fifth collection district of Virginia, in place of William John, heretofore nominated for that office, now deceased.

The messages were read.

Ordered, That they lie for consideration.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the nomination of William Burchmore, contained in the message of the 24th December; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointment, agreeably to the nomination.

Ordered, That the Secretary lay this resolution before the President of the United States.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the message of the President of the United States, of the 24th of December; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointment of John Fleming, agreeably to the nomination.

Ordered, That the other nominations be postponed.

The Senate took into consideration the message of the President of the United States, of the 28th December; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointment of Benjamin Bincham, agreeably to the nomination.

Ordered, That the nomination of Arthur Moore be postponed.
