The following messages were received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Donelson, his secretary:
To the Senate:
I withdraw the nomination of Pierson Cogswell, now before the Senate as marshal for the State of New Hampshire, from the 15th of March, 1836.

To the Senate:
I nominate Thomas Randall to be judge of the Territorial court of the United States for Middle Florida from the 27th of the present month, when his commission expired. It is proper also that I should submit to the Senate, in connection with this nomination, certain papers containing charges against Judge Randall, which have been transmitted to the President. They are herewith communicated.

The messages were severally read.
Ordered, That the message nominating Thomas Randall be referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
Mr. Webster, from the Committee on Finance, to whom were referred the nominations of R. M. Patterson, and J. C. Pickett, contained in the message of the 28th December, and the nominations of Franklin Peale, Edward D. Ingraham, Henry Toland, Cherey Hickman, James Rogers, and David Henshaw, contained in the messages of the 22d December, reported.
Whereupon
Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of R. M. Patterson, J. C. Pickett, Franklin Peale, Edward D. Ingraham, Henry Toland, Cherey Hickman, James Rogers, and David Henshaw, agreeably to their respective nominations.

Mr. Clay, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred the message of the 22d December nominating Powhattan Ells, reported.
Whereupon
Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of Powhattan Ellis, agreeably to the nomination.
Mr. Clay, from the Committee on Foreign Relations, to whom was referred, the 22d December, the convention with the Mexican United States, reported the same without amendment.
The convention was read the second time, as in Committee of the Whole; and no amendment having been made, it was reported to the Senate accordingly.
Mr. Clay submitted the following resolution for consideration:
Resolved (two-thirds of the Senators present concurring), That the Senate do advise and consent to the ratification of the convention between the United States of America and the Mexican United States, concluded at Mexico the third day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-five, additional to the treaty between the same parties, concluded at Mexico the 12th day of January 1828.
Mr. Ewing, from the Committee on the Public Lands, to whom was referred the message of the December nominating Jonathan Kearsley, reported.
Whereupon
Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of Jonathan Kearsley, agreeably to the nomination.
Mr. Davis, from the Committee on Commerce, to whom were referred the messages of the 22d and 24th December nominating John D. McCrate and others, Joseph Redue, and Benjamin Stiles, reported.
Whereupon
Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of John D. McCrate, Thomas Nelson, Hiram Perry, I. R. Hardenbergh, Thomas G. Norton, Martin Gordon, jr., Joseph Redue, and Benjamin Stiles, agreeably to their respective nominations.
Mr. Clayton, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the message of the 28th December nominating Roger B. Taney, and Philip P. Barbour, reported; and,
On motion by Mr. Clayton,
Ordered, That the nominations lie on the table.
Mr. White, from the Committee on Indian Affairs, to whom was referred the message of the President of the United States of the 24th December, relating to the proceeds of the sale of Indian lands, reported the following resolution; which was read:
Resolved, That the Senate do advise the President, and hereby consent, that he have the moneys arising from the sales of the Chickasaw lands, and which are or may be due to said nation of Indians, invested in stock in the manner and at the periods proposed by the Secretary of the Treasury in his communication to the President dated 23d December, 1835, and by the President transmitted to the Senate with his message under the same date.
