The following written messages were received from the President of the United Slates, by Mr. Malcom, his Secretary:
Gentlemen of the Senate:
I nominate Franklin Wharton, of Pennsylvania, to be a Lieutenant of Marines, in the Navy.
Joseph West, to be a Surgeon's Mate, in the ship Delaware.

Gentlemen of the Senate:
I nominate Jabez G. Fitch, to be Marshal of the district of Vermont, for four years, according to the law, the term of his former appointment being expired.
