The following message was received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Donelson, his secretary:

To the Senate of the United States:

I nominate the person named in the accompanying communication of the Secretary of War for an appointment in the Medical Department of the Army.

Sir: I have the honor to submit herewith the name of William Hammond, of Maryland, to be assistant surgeon in the Army of the United States, to take rank from 1st of June, 1834, vice Handy, resigned.

The message was read.

Mr. Clayton, from the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom was referred the nomination of Benjamin Tappan, contained in the message of the 21st January, reported on the nomination of Benjamin Tappan.

The Senate proceeded to consider the nomination; and,

On motion by Mr. Morris,

Ordered, That it lie on the table.

Mr. Poindexter, from the Committee on Public Lands, to whom were referred the nomination of Uriel Sebree, contained in the message of the 10th January; the nominations of Thomas Gillespie, Finis Ewing, William Wright, Hilary B. Cenas, and Valentine King, contained in the message of the 22d March; and the nomination of John Killian, contained in the message of the 16th January, reported,

Whereupon

Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of Uriel Sebree, Thomas Gillespie, Finis Ewing, William Wright, Hilary B. Cenas, Valentine King, and John Killian, agreeably to the respective nominations.

Mr. Silsbee, from the Committee on Commerce, to whom were referred the nominations of John P. Norton, Pierre A. Barker, and Martin Gordon contained in the message of the 22d March, reported.

Whereupon

Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of John P. Norton and Pierre A. Barker, agreeably to the respective nominations.

On motion by Mr. Wright,

Ordered, That the nomination of Martin Gordon lie on the table.

Mr. Silsbee, from the same committee, to whom were referred the nomination of Shelden S. Clark, contained in the message of the 21 February; the messages of the 1st May nominating Gabriel Holmes, James Wade, John D. Jones, James McGuire, and Robert Mitchell; the message of the 8th May nominating Woodson Wren; and the messages of April 24 and May 8 nominating Charles Barnet and Ceran St. Vrain as consuls, reported.

Whereupon

Resolved, That the Senate do advise and consent to the appointment of Shelden S. Clark, Gabriel Holmes, James Wade, John D. Jones, James McGuire, Robert Mitchell, Woodson Wren, Charles Barnet, and Ceran St. Vrain, agreeably to their respective nominations.

On motion by Mr. Black,

The Senate resumed the consideration of the nomination of George Adams, contained in the message of the 4th of March; and

Resolved, That they do advise and consent to the appointment of George Adams, agreeably to the nomination.
