NOTES
Letters from C. T. Ebor (Charles Thomas Longley (1794-1868), Archbishop of York) and Thomas Vowler Short (Bishop of St. Asaph). Dodgson was personally acquainted with Longley, and took a number of photographs of him. Longley was educated at Christ Church and during his time as an undergraduate, he met Dodgson's father, who was likewise studying there. The two men became great friends, and Longley was instrumental in getting Dodgson senior promoted to key positions in the church including residentiary canon of Ripon, archdeacon of Richmond, and rector of Croft. Thomas Vowler Short (1790-1872) MA Christ Church, was appointed Bishop of St. Asaph in 1846. Herbert Randolph (1789-1875) MA Christ Church, was vicar of Marcham, Berkshire 1819-1875.
