Letter from the Dean of Carlisle to the editor of Punch.

AUTHOR/CREATOR
Close, Francis, D. D.

CREATED/PUBLISHED
London, England: Punch, XXXVI, p. 42, January 29, 1859

NOTES
This appears to be a letter (probably invented) from Francis Close (1797-1882), MA St. John's College, Cambridge, Dean of Carlisle from 1856, on Punch's "malignant hatred for religion." The "Scarlet Woman" is a Punch reference to the Roman Catholic Church - the writers were mainly anti-Catholic.
