Lady Franklin's arctic expedition. To the editor of the Times.

AUTHOR/CREATOR
Weld, C. R.

CREATED/PUBLISHED
London, England: Times, April 25, [1857]

NOTES
Letter to the Editor of The Times dated April 25 (Dodgson has added the year, 1857). Charles Richard Weld (1813-1869) was assistant-secretary and librarian to the Royal Society. His wife, Anne née Sellwood (1814-1894), was sister-in-law to Alfred Lord Tennyson. Dodgson first met the Welds at Croft in August 1857, at which time he took photographs of their only daughter, Agnes Grace (1849-1915), one as "Little Red Riding-Hood." This latter photograph became Dodgson's entrée to the Poet Laureate later that same year. This suggests that the clipping was added retrospectively, after Dodgson had become acquainted with the Weld family.
