NOTES
A full account of the marriage of Dodgson's brother, Wilfred Longley Dodgson (1838-1914), to Alice Jane née Donkin (1851-1929) on August 9, 1871, at Sleights, near Whitby, Yorkshire. Dodgson noted in his diary for August 9: "Wilfred's wedding day. May it be the beginning of many many happy years for him and Alice!"
