NOTES
Portrait of the Rev. Dr. George Edward Lynch Cotton (1813-1866), Bishop of Calcutta, illustrating an obituary notice in The Illustrated London News. He was one of Dodgson's teachers at Rugby School. Cotton died accidentally after falling into the River Ganges and was swept away, never to be seen again.
