Notes
Interview with Chris Betts and Nick Doris at the Hot Grill, Clifton, NJ.
The top 3-4 people in HTW history: CB says the "old Greek gentleman," William Pappas, John Patrelis (opened the Olympic Grill ca. 1940).
CB entered the HTW business after leaving the Army at the end of WWII. In 1946, he and his brothers leased the Olympic Grill, a HTW place started by John Patrelis -- who, like William Pappas, also worked for "the old Greek gentleman." After three years the Betts Brothers and Paul Agrusti opened the Falls View Grill (FVG).
CB opines that the number of HTW places in the Paterson area is about the same now as in the 1940s and 1950s.
Paul Agrusti left the Falls View in 1978 to open the Colonial Grill on the west side of Paterson. He has passed away but his son Leonard now runs it, says Nick Doris (ND).
