Les Stewart explains that ranches usually own the horses that buckaroos ride, but that the men supply their own saddles and gear and care for the horses. Recorded in a barn on the 96 Ranch.
Les explains that the ranch usually owns the horses buckaroos ride and furnishes the feed, but that the men supply their own saddles and gear and care for the animals. On the drive we filmed, neighbors Henry and Clay Taylor brought their own mounts.
A string of saddle horses is called a cavvy, or caviata. The cavvy on the drive would have four animals per man, and the riders would change mounts once or twice a day.
