The letterpress books of Aaron Ward Weaver (1832-1919) span the dates 1861-1884 and consist of records of the United States Navy sloop of war the Brooklyn. Two volumes of letterpress copies of routine correspondence by Weaver concern ships stores, maintenance, operation, and ports of call along the eastern coast of South America and the southwestern and southern coasts of Africa during Weaver's command of the Brooklyn during its service with the South Atlantic Squadron, 1882-1884. A lithograph of the Brooklyn published in 1861 is the only item in these papers reflecting the ship's extensive service in the Civil War.
