Show Music on Record

Notes on the Terminology
Opening Date: For most stage shows, this indicates the opening date in New York or in London, Vienna, Paris, or another foreign capital. If the show did not play in New York or a foreign capital, the opening in another major city is listed. The date chosen is the date of the "official" premiere of the musical show -- usually the performance that the critics reviewed.
Types of Productions
Original Production: For stage shows, this refers to a New York production unless otherwise specified, e.g. Original (Arlington, VA) production.
Album: When Album is used in place of Studio Production, it indicates that the material is more a collection of songs from the show than a full-fledged studio production.
Recordings
The first edition of a recording is listed, whether it be a cylinder, 78-rpm, 45-rpm, LP, or CD. Significant reissues also are listed, but no attempt has been made to include every single edition of a recording. If one edition is complete and another is not, this information will be indicated.
Unless otherwise indicated, LPs are 12-inch, and 45s and EPs are 7-inch. The size of 78-rpm single records is not specified. 78-rpm albums are 10-inch unless specified as 12-inch. When a country name in parentheses follows a label name, this indicates the location of the pressing.
