- Summary
- This work is based on The Tale of Peter Rabbit, the story by Beatrix Potter. The piece is composed in a simple, straightforward manner, serving to make it immediately accessible to children. It is intended to capture the entire “package” of experiences, from a child’s point of view, that comes with having a favorite book read to her. With this in mind, the narration is paramount throughout. Although the text is written in the score, and each character and scene is associated with specific melodies, no attempt should be made to narrate in rhythm or pitch with the melodies. The intention is that the music be truly incidental to the story, and it is enough that the narrations simply begin and end in the marked spots.
