- Summary
- This is a selection of six movements of this work, which are idiomatic for the instrumentation. Saint-Saëns wrote it and regarded it as fun. He did not allow his editor to publish it while he was alive because he wanted to be appreciated for his “serious” music, therefore the piece was public after his death. It became one of his most known works, ironically. Each movement depicts a type of animal, although he includes pianists as animals and fossils.
