- Summary
- Debussy composed his concertante masterwork on commission from Pleyel for a competition held at the Brussels conservatoire featuring a newly improved "harpe chromatique" and string orchestra. The work was given its first performance at the Concerts Colonne in Paris on November 6, 1904 with Madame Wurmser-Delcourt as soloist with the orchestra directed by Édouard Colonne. The piece gained popularity fast and soon entered standard repertoire for works featuring a harp and orchestra. The original Durand score is presented here in a digitally -enhanced reduced format reissue. In contrast to so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is actually readable.
