- Summary
- Stenhammar sketched some material for his second symphony while on vacation in Rome in 1911, but completed the bulk of the piece between 1912 and 1915 back in Sweden. The premiere took place in Gothenburg on April 22, 1915 with the Gothenburg Orchestral Society conducted by the composer. Although the work gained some popularity in Scandinavia, it remains relatively unknown elsewhere - an unfortunate omission because it is one of the very finest pieces in the Swedish composer's catalogue. This new study score is a digitally enhanced reissue of the one published in 1952 by Carl Gehrmann's Forlag of Stockholm - itself a reprint of the first edition of 1916. Unlike so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is readable.
