- Summary
- Multi-meter, irregular-meter with difficult rhythms; tonal and largely diatonic, though not completely triadic in nature. The percussion part consists solely of woodblocks, which allude to horses' hooves, though the rhythms do not resemble such equestrian regularity. Difficult piece to prepare for performance, though highly accessible to audiences and extremely rewarding artistically for the musicians. It is the fourth in a series of "American Trails" for brass quintet.
- Notes
- Brass quintet (two trumpets, horn, trombone, tuba), and percussion (woodblocks).
