- A musical comedy in two acts, 6 scenes. book by Guy Bolton and Fred Thompson. Music by George Gershwin. Lyrics by Ira Gershwin. Production staged by Felix Edward. Dances and ensembles by Sammy Lee. Opened 1 December 1924 at the Liberty Theatre and closed 12 September 1925 after 330 performances.
Starring Fred Astaire as Dick Trevor, Adele Astaire as Susie Trevor (cast as brother and sister) among others. 25 Ladies of the Ensemble; 12 Gentlemen of the Ensemble.Fred and Adele introduce "Fascinating Rhythm" "Swiss Bromide" "Funny Face" and "Let's Kiss and Make Up." The romantic ballad "The Man I Love" was performed by Adele with the male lead.
With this show, the color of stage jazz was defined. Four songs included were "Fascinating Rhythm" a show stopper sang and danced by Fred and Adele; "Little Jazz Bird" and "The Man I Love." The story was not especially complicated. When Dick Trevor (Fred Astaire) rebuffs Josephine Vanderwater (Jayne Auburn), she has Dick and his sister, Susie (Adele Astaire) evicted from the house she owns. Production included ballroom and tap dance. - Source
