- Produced by the Smithsonian Institution. Subtitled Solo southern dance: buck, flatfoot & tap. For companion volume, see *MGS (U.S.) 96-11960 "Talking Feet." Documentary exploring the many permutations of traditional Appalachian step dancing, a dance form popular in the southeastern United States, emphasizing percussive foot movements and a strong sense of musical rhythms. Dancers of all ages, mainly non-professionals, perform and described the different styles and terms: buck dancing, flat-footing, buck and wing, step-dancing, clogging, hoe down. They also discuss how these dances are handed down from one generation to another, and how innovations are introduced.
