A Musical Revue First presented by the Newport Jazz Festival at Avery Fisher Hall June 24, 1979. Starring tap dancers John W. Bubbles, Charles "Honi" Coles, Gregory Hines (along with Nell Carter, Adelaide Hall, Bobby Short, Edith Wilson) and featuring tap dancers Charles "Cookie" Cook, Leslie "Bubba" Gaines, Mercedes Ellington, Carla Earle, Terri Griffin, and Wyetta Turner in the chorus. Among the composers and lyricists whose songs were performed: Harold Arlen, Irving Berlin, Eubie Blake, Benny Carter, Vernon Duke, Duke Ellington, George and Ira Gershwin, James P. Johnson, Cole Porter, Andy Razaf, Noble Sissle, Fats Waller, George Walker and Bert Williams.
Song and dance numbers included medley from "Runnin' Wild" (1923) and "Under the Bamboo Tree" (1902); "Broadway in Dahomey" from Williams and Walker's In Dahomey (1903), Bill Robinson's "Doin' the New Lowdown" and "Digga Digga Do" from Blackbirds of 1928; Ellington's "Creole Love Call" (1927); "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" (1928); "Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" (1931); "Jump For Joy" (1940), "Cotton Club Stomp" (1929); "There's a Boat That's Leaving Soon for New York" and "It Ain't Necessarily So" from Porgy and Bess (1935); "Taking A Chance On Love" and "Honey in the Honeycomb" from Cabin in the Sky (1940); "Stormy Weather" (1933), "Sweet Georgia Brown" (1925); and "Memories of You" (1930). - Source
