- Abstract
- This staged challenge televised nationally on the annual Grammy Awards on February 26, 1997 pitted Colin Dunn, the star of "Riverdance " on Broadway, against Savion Glover, the star of "Bring in da Noise, Bring in da Funk"-- the two hottest musicals on Broadway in 1997; the challenge also pitted the percussive dance traditions (Irish step dancing and African American jazz tap dancing) that each represented. There is wide debate over who won this challenge: Dunn displayed his virtuosic modern Irish step dancing technique, Glover insisted on bringing the challenge down into the ground and seemed to respond and comment on the steps that Dunn was laying out.
