After Seben Barton, James performer Snowden, George "Shorty" performer Chick Webb Orchestra performer Film 1929-05-17 Paramount 2 reels Short subject sound film in which, Irish-American minstrel stage veteran James Barton, after presenting three pairs of lindy dancers from the Savoy Ballroom (including George "Shorty Snowden), performs a solo eccentric soft-shoe dance to "Tiger Rag" to the accompaniment of the Chick Webb Orchestra (Webb was not given official credit) The steps in the early lindy dance, include the Charleston, cakewalk and breakaway, and demonstrate how the lindy was influenced by and in turn influenced the rhythmic stepping of twenties jazz tap dance. "Since I don't have my partner" Barton explains, I'm going to try to do the "Buzzard's Glory." Barton performs an assortment of jazz dance steps which he makes weird and eccentric, due in large part to his over-extended shoes and lanky and loose style: Charleston, legomania, crossover; his feet always shuffle the floor; he finishes with a stiff-bodied walk and strut exit.
