- May 25, 1989. In celebration of National Tap Dance Day, jazz dance film historian Ernie Smith receives the Black Patti Award from the Black Patti Foundation, organized by black cultural historian Delilah Jackson, who co-produced the first concert to commemorate National Tap Dance Day and the creation of the Flo-Bert Award (an abbreviation of 1920s musical artists Florence Mills and Bert Williams) bestowed annually on African-Americans and others who have performed, taught and promoted tap dance.
American Tap Dance Orchestra among the guests to perform at a benefit for the Black Patti Project, a New York City organization that preserves rare footage of jazz in film. - Source
