International Tap Festival, "Tappin' With Masters" was attended by nearly 300 students from the US and several other countries. Tap classes were taught by Terry Brock, Eddie Brown, Honi Coles, Steve Condos, Lynn Dally, Mark Mendonca, Fred Moritel, Sarah Petronio, LaVaughn Robinson and Sam Weber. In addition, master classes were taught in clogging by Ira Bernstein and in African dance by Bruce Smith. Honi Coles was master of ceremonies for two performances showcasing tap masters at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall; music was provided by the Jazz Tap Ensemble musicians and local artist Darin Clendenin. The new trio, Steps Ahead (Mark Mendoca, Fred Moritel, and Michael Rainey) opened the show, and Gregory Hines made a special appearance at the closing performance. As a result of the festival, Michael Rainey performed on Broadway in "Black and Blue" and all three members of Steps Ahead would appear in a film with Gregory Hines filmed in 1991.
