- The Ellington troupe in this and subsequent engagements included the Chocolateers, a comedy dance trio from the West Coast that included Eddie West, a fine acrobat; Paul Black, who could execute Chinese splits (straddling to the floor as he walked), and Albert "Gip" Gipson.
