- Abstract
- One of the DuMont network's major efforts in the musical variety field to lure away audiences from NBC following the network's top-rated Milton Berle Show. The "star" of this series was a different big-name band each week. Virtually every major dance band in the US appeared on this program at one time or another during its year-and-a-half run. Four different hosts presided over the Cavalcade during its run (first telecast 1/17/1950; last telecast 9/25/1951); bandleader Ted Steele was the emcee at the time of this initial appearance of Duke Ellington on this program, which also included the tap dance team of Son & Sonny (Bunny Briggs & Honi Coles).
