- Third annual Monterrey Jazz Festival which ended up in the black for the first time and exhibited no signs of riots or even disorderliness (from the previous year). Performances featured an evening show with Duke Ellington; the Saturday evening show with Cannonball Adderly's group "in support" blues singer Jimmy Rushing teaming up with the band, and tap dancer Bunny Briggs was rated among the festival's most artistically successful events.
