- New York Amsterdam News 1/24/1934 and 1/31/1934:
"One of the most important theatre events in the history of Harlem is the opening of the former Hurtig and Seamon Apollo Theatre on 125th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues,; renamed the 125th Street Apollo Theatre and will make extensive alterations preparing to present a deluxe policy of entertainment consisting of screen and stage presentation.
"Spic and span and entirely redecorated and refurnished, the Apollo Theatre also will feature a High Fidelity RCA Sound Equipment, identical with that used at the Radio City Music Hall.
"Devised under the supervision of Clarence Robinson, internationally known producer, the extravaganza introduced Aida Ward, Dusty Fletcher,Three Rhythm Kings, Mabel Scott and the Three Palmer Brothers with the Benny Carter's Orchestra; the initial screen feature is that intensely interesting film, 'Criminal at Large.'"
