Erskine Hawkins Band with Billy Daniere
Revue staged by Leonard Harper
This was the show in which Baby "disappeared" from the theatre wings forcing Bunny Briggs to go on first; Laurence was legend and overswept Bunny, he admits. The Ubangi Club is where this show originated, than transferred to the Apollo. Bunny remembers that the Mafia cornered Schiffman in his office and told him that if he ever announced that the show was "better than the Cotton Club" he would be dead.
Author Contance Valis Hill interview with Bunny Briggs February 6, 2007. Hill has a great picture of Bunny doing this show from the Frank Driggs Collection.
