Presented by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. The medal given each year in recognition of outstanding artistry, and Bojangles was chosen by a committee made up of W.C. Handy, Billy Rose, Gene Buck. . . . Robinson nosed out his Cotton Club colleague Cab Calloway and Eddie Davis, Rudy Valee, Paul Draper, Tommy Dorsey for the award.
