- Abstract
- Jean Aloise performs a dance specialty "Anchors Away" in which she performs a soft-shoe dance in a dress and flower hat and intersperses flashy acrobatics into the routine; back flips into splits, she is a cross between a Betty Boop and an expert rhythm dancer; Ann Kilkelly describes her routine as a feminine flashing: using the frills of a skirt and showing of the leg in turns as an way of titillating the audience while impressing with her acrobatic virtuosity. Feminine flash: acrobatics and rhythm, dangerous moves, physical prowess, fancy footwork; traditionally masculine.
