- Abstract
- Music Television video. From Abduhl's debut album Your girl Forever on Virgin Records shows that Abdul can dance and sing. The first video released was "Knocked Out" highlighting Abdul's dynamic choreography for music television video with a large group of dancers and fast-paced editing. But this, her second video, breaks ground.
"(It's Just) The Way That You Love Me" is thought to be one of the first music videos to include tap dancing (albeit a scant 12 bars). The song has a typically hard-driving funk beat with plenty of sound layering used in high-tech synthesized music.
"They proceed to tap for 12 bars accompanied only by a melody and rhythm guitar leaving space for the taps to be heard. The sound is crisp and clear (metal taps on wet concrete). The dancers begin performing in unison with various cramp-roll turns for the first two bars. a call and response follows with Paula laying down the rhythm and the men answering. They use their bodies with the same kind of funky movement you see earlier but greatly toned down to allow the feet to carry the message. ..A couple of Maxi Fords with more precision cramp-roll turns end the 12 bars, and bring the dancing to a climax....It's interesting to note that the sounds of the taps appear in the video version while the record album features a guitar solo."
