- Notes
- Full score, with parts for vocal soloists, chorus, and alto, tenor and bass trombones in black ink ms. by two unidentified copyists with extensive revisions in hand of composer made in preparation for publication by B. Schott's Söhne and possibly used in 1st performance.
- For orchestra; last movement also includes soloists (SATB) and chorus (SATB).
- Finale is setting of Schiller's ode An die Freude.
- Markings and revisions by composer in pencil, red crayon, black ink and brown ink throughout. Some alterations pasted over original bars.
- Full score and voice parts include rehearsal cues in red crayon.
- Parts for vocal soloists and chorus not in score format and include only designated vocal lines.
- Full score laid out in 3 bound v. containing 1st movement (v.1), 2nd-3rd movements (v.2) and Finale (v.3), each paginated separately in pencil, v.1 (127 p.), v.2 (141 p.), v.3 (196 p.). Portion of v.3 (p. 43-68) on different paper (37 cm.) and housed in separate folder. Vol. 3 binder housed in newly produced dark blue board box (44 x 31 x 4 cm.) labeled on front and spine: Beethoven Symphony Nr. 9 Finale. Choral parts enclosed in board binder (25 x 33 cm.) but individually unbound; binder cover labeled: L. van Beethoven IX Symphonie Chor-Stimmen. Solo voice and trombone parts housed in archival acid-free folders (37 x 47 cm.) wrapped individually in acid-free white paper sleeves.
- Includes performance annotations in ms. black ink housed in same acid-free paper sleeve as solo soprano part; annotations have caption title: Tenor.
- Contains brief unidentified musical sketch on pair of staves in pencil on top of otherwise blank p. following Finale in v.3.
- Wear, staining, minor tearing, soiling and paper deterioration present, with some signatures sewn with string or otherwise repaired, and pasteovers laid down with sealing wax. Binders slightly worn, with v.3 binding partly separated.
- Projected publisher no. of B. Schott's Söhne 2321 inscribed in dark ink or pencil on cover labels of binders containing v. 1-2 of full score, and 1st p. of each part, with no. 2322 entered on binder cover label for the Finale housed in v.3 .
