George S. Kaufman (1889-1961) was one of the most gifted and successful of writers for the stage in the 20th century. His plays are often revived, and include You Can't Take It With You, The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Once in a Lifetime. He worked both in nonmusical as well as musical theater, and collaborated with some of the best known composers and writers of his time, including Moss Hart, Marc Connelly, Edna Ferber, Richard Rodgers, Larry Hart, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter. This relatively small collection documents various aspects of his theatrical and private life, and touches on his connection with the film industry.
Includes scripts for several shows, including later adaptations for musicals, films, & foreign-language productions. In addition there are photographs, programs, clippings, and some correspondence.
