- Abstract
- In 1939, film maker Herta Moselsio worked with modern dance pioneer Martha Graham to film her work Lamentation, which premiered in New York in 1930. This iconic work of Graham places the solo dancer on a low bench, from which she never moves. The costume consists of a triangular tube of jersey material that allows the audience to see only the feet, hands, and part of the head. In the course of the filming, Moselsio took this series of photographs of Graham.
