- Flutist Samuel Baron (1925-1997) was a founding member of the New York Woodwind Quintet, and appeared as soloist with noted orchestras and on recordings. Especially identified with the music of Bach, Baron was a member of the Bach Aria Group before taking over as director in 1980. Baron championed new music, too, and gave premieres of works by Barber, Blackwood, Boulez, Brant, Korte, Kupferman, Laderman, and Riegger. The collection contains Baron's working music library, as well as his archive of press materials.
