Flutist Samuel Baron (1925-1997) was a founding member of the New York Woodwind Quintet, and appeared as soloist with noted orchestras and on recordings. Especially identified with the music of Bach, Baron was a member of the Bach Aria Group before taking over as director in 1980. Baron championed new music, too, and gave premieres of works by Barber, Blackwood, Boulez, Brant, Korte, Kupferman, Laderman, and Riegger. The collection contains Baron's working music library, as well as his archive of press materials.
Approx. 35 music manuscripts; 80 pieces of printed music; 30,000 papers, including letters, programs, clippings, scrapbooks, business records, publicity materials; 100 photographs; 350 sound recordings; 4 video recordings
