- Irving Schwerke was an international music critic and musician, who throughout his career contributed to more than 100 leading papers and magazines, and encyclopedias such as Britannica Junior, the Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, and Cobbett's Cyclopedic Survey of Chamber Music. He was the author of Kings Jazz and David, and Alexander Tansman, Polish Composer. In Paris he organized the first all-American concert, and later (1931) the first all-American music festival in Germany. After the fall of France, Schwerké left Paris and immigrated to the United States in 1942. He wrote for The Musical Digest and The Musical Courier, was the drama and music critic for The Chicago Daily Tribune, and was a correspondent for La Nuova Italia Musicale in Rome and for The London Musical Times. He corresponded with many of the major musicians and composers of his time.
