- Abstract
- Dancer, chreographer, and teacher May O'Donnell (1909-2004) was an original member of Martha Graham's dance company (1932-1938; 1944-1952) and created roles in many of Graham's most iconic works, including Appalachian Spring, Dark Meadow, Herodiade, and Cave of the Heart. In 1939 she co-founded the San Francisco Dance Theatre and started her own dance company in 1949. O'Donnell's choreography has been set on companies such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the London Contemporary Dance Theatre, and the Houston Ballet. A finding aid is available in the Performing Arts Reading Room.
