- The archive assembled by Maia Bang Hohn for a projected biography of violinist Nicolò Paganini (1782-1840) was purchased in 1944 with Whittall Foundation funds. Kept as a distinct unit within the Whittall Collection, the Paganini material includes correspondence, notebooks, music manuscripts, personal documents, clippings, early biographies, posters, and prints. Many items were originally owned by the Paganini family. The collection is described by former Music Division chief Harold Spivacke in the 1947 pamphlet titled Paganiniana, which is available online.
