- Abstract
- Joe Haymes (1907-1964) was a self-taught pianist, arranger and bandleader who worked with Ted Weems in the late 1920s. He formed his own band in 1930, toured widely and worked regularly at the Roseland and Empire ballrooms in New York City. Due to financial problems in the 1930s, one of Haymes's orchestras was bought out by Buddy Rogers. Another Haymes orchestra was decimated when Tommy Dorsey lured 12 members away. Haymes began working in Hollywood studios in 1955, and wrote arrangements for Jack Teagarden, among others.
